Spent lots of hours exploring nearby Seattle, sometimes with a walking stick, sometimes without, depending on how my foot feels at the time.

I'm just gobsmacked! I find myself rendered utterly incoherent, capable only of such insightful commentary as, "No way! No Way! NO WAY!" and similar. What you describe sounds very much like what happens at Worldcons, too, particularly in the "OMG that was Mondo Famous Author Hero X!" Will have to tell you about my embarrassing run-in with Connie Willis sometime. :)
